Ierapetra, Crete (Wikipedia image)A man from Bradley Stoke is due to be questioned on suspicion of murder after a fall from a balcony in Crete.

John Hogan, 32, was arrested following the incident which saw his six-year-old son die.

His two-year-old daughter only survived, doctors believe, because the other two bodies cushioned the fall.

Mr Hogan broke both an arm and a leg in the fall.

Earlier reports had suggested that he had already been charged, but the Foreign Office says that he has yet to be questioned.

That is likely to happen when Mr Hogan recovers from surgery.
The incident took place at the Petra Mare Hotel, Ierapetra.

A report on the BBC website says a family statement claims they have yet to talk to Mr Hogan about exactly what happened.

The statement adds the holiday was “to be an opportunity for us to enjoy quality time together in an environment away from the general strains of daily life”.

Nektarios Papavassiliou, the director of Ierapetra hospital, is quoted in the Evening Post as saying: “The boy was in an extremely serious condition when he was brought in.

“There were massive head injuries and also internal abdominal bleeding.

“The girl, on the contrary, appeared to be unharmed. She must have fallen on top of the others.”
