How bad is youth crime in Bradley Stoke?

Written by Chris (editor) on Thursday March 8th, 2007 at 7:18 am

Jubilee Neighbourhood Watch says action needs to be taken over youth crime in Bradley Stoke - we want to know if it is bad in your area.

Members from the Watch say incidents include people being harassed, cars being damaged and youths drinking outside.

A statement by the group says: “The police have been working to address this issue and we are grateful for their efforts, but it is getting out of hand and we need to have more radical action.”

Have they overreacted or are the youths causing as much of a problem as they claim?

FWIW, we’ve had some bad problems around our patch. Kids hanging around, kids kicking in picket fences, kids stealing whole gates from out local school. We keep telling the police, they keep coming out an upping the patrols, kids wait until they’re gone and then carry on again. Part of them problem is surely down to a lack of activity for them in the town, though?

The question has to be asked as to just how much of this problem has the council actually bought into the area themselves ???.

And what does Anon mean by those cryptic words?? Stand up and say what you mean.

Anon, it’s not just Minnie who’s confused over what you said. I’m not sure I understand what you meant by your comments of “has the council actually bought into the area themselves”. It doesn’t make sense!!

We’ll when new builds(houses) are established and the development exceeds 14 dwellings the council force the developers into selling a percentage of the dwelling to the housing associations cheap. The dwelling are then used to house families who are on the waiting lists for properties or they are also used to house PROBLEM families from other areas (that could mean from any area) who aren’t interacting with the communities they live in at present or those causing problems in the areas they live in by participating in anti social behaviour/ threats of neighbours/ nuisance. MOVING A PROBLEM FROM ONE AREA TO ANOTHER DOESN’T SOLVE IT- IT JUST CAUSES PROBLEMS FOR OTHERS.
So sorry for being cryptic before but this is what i meant by writing you could say “the council may have added to problems themselves” couldn’t you!

Well ANON, please understand that housing is dealt with by South Glos Council and they are regulated under Government guidelines. The older housign was put in place by Northavon.

Bradley Stoke Town Council have nothing to do with housing and are left to sort out issues themselves regarding theirt own areas of work.

Presume you mean the housing looked after by HOME Housing Association. Have you tried to talking to them or maybe you are a resident there who has an issue with neighbours? Always worth being upfront and issues get sorted. Also most of the troubles caused at the moment by maurauding youths are because they have been driven out of Patchway by the Zero tolerance going on there and so rampage around Toxteth’s house and other areas of BS. So no Council has added to problems themselves or by choice. Please get facts right before blasting off.

    Huh!

To Minnie, you obviously work for or have some connection with one of the local councils and therefore your views are very narrow minded. The comment regarding zero tolerance in Patchway is untrue and therefore the youths have not been “driven” out. We have our very own breed of yobs that need sorting and that needs to be sorted by the council providing better facilities, police moving the gangs on and parents being responsible for their children’s actions.

Minnie, I’m not engaging in a personal verbal argument with you ! it’s not the purpose of this forum !! YOU HAVE HEARD MY VIEWS if you don’t like them DONT READ THEM. Just for the record also MY HOUSE IS MINE I WORK HARD FOR IT AND PAY FOR IT IN ITS ENTIRETY monthly. thanks for your concern.
My facts are to my knowledge right unlike yours ! 1) The youths in question are not unless you can provide proof to the contrary from any area other than Bradley Stoke itself. 2) There is no zero tolerence in place in Patchway at this present time.
    Huh to you too !
Off back to the council office Minnie with you, thanks for your comments.

I am looking to rent a property in Bradley Stoke. Are there any particular areas to avoid? The local Estate Agents say no, but they would wouldn’t they!!

yeah it’s definately all patchway’s fault, my mate got stabbed at the skatepark by patchway lot… patchway lot constantly try to take over the skatepark every summer it’s starting again allready, and also little stoke kiddies are now swarming the area, causing trouble for the leisure center, hindering our development of the skatepark due to quarms between leisure centre and council about the trouble the kids cause.

to be honest the best way to get rid of em is to give em a beating and tell em to get back to their own patch. pigs cant do nothin right, they just harass us for the trouble the other kids cause.

  • 13 Anon1 // Mar 19, 2007 at 12:12 pm

    To the anon above,
GROW UP !!!!!! It with mentality like yours that causes the troubles in the first instance YOUR obviously very young and immature. The police officers do a very difficult job and with your mentality of calling them PIGS just shows how immature you are and that you like the rest of the up and coming children have no respect for anyone.
No young child if there’s nothing to watch on cbeebes next time try nick junior and leave mommies computer alone !

Goat - follow the links to the forum, join up and put your question there. I’m sure people will help the best they can and can find out more about what you’re after away from this main news story :O)

  • 15 LocalPCSO // Mar 21, 2007 at 3:45 pm

Anon - We are dealing with the youths that cause problems around the skate park. We don’t harass the people using the skate park for the right reasons, as we want people to use the skate park, without fear of being beaten up or harassed by other users. We deal with the people causing problems around the skate park and will continue to do so. Giving them a beating as you put it, is not the solution. We will deal positively with all offences that happen within the area of both the Bradley Stoke Leisure centre and Skate Park.

I have noticed that there seems to always be kids hanging around outside of the main Tesco in Bradley stoke asking people to but them fags and booze and unfortunately there are people who agree to this! I believe that more support should be given to Tesco to help move these kids along. I was in my local (child free) pub on Saturday night when some youths came in to use the toilet because they had been fighting and one was badly bleeding, they cleaned up and went on their way but about an hour later the other came back and he had also been hurt. maybe police should patrol the streets more on fri and sat and if they see trouble, take the kids home!

  • 17 LocalPCSO // Apr 28, 2007 at 9:48 am

The Police do patrol the streets more on Friday and Saturday night. We have an operation which runs on both nights, every week. The main aim of the operation is to deal with all the Anti Social Behaviour hot spots or any other ASB problems that occur within the local area.
