Calls for changes at Aztec West roundabout

Written by Chris (editor) on Sunday March 11th, 2007 at 4:34 pm

Aztec West roundaboutA Bradley Stoke town councillor is campaigning for changes at the busy Aztec West roundabout.

During the morning rush hour the queues to the intersection can back up way down Bradley Stoke Way.

Now Liberal Democrat Jon Williams is asking for a new slip road to siphon traffic to the citybound A38.

He is also asking traffic engineers to alter the phasing of the traffic lights.

“We need solutions to the morning traffic problems at Aztec West roundabout and our suggestion is to provide a slip road for cars who want to turn left down the A38.”

Brilliant idea! There is already a slip road there that has been blocked off - they just need to reactivate that and that should improve the flow. I can see any timing changes difficult as it will not be safe or acceptable to allow traffic to back up on the motorway (a probable consequence of reducing the flow from that direction). Of course if Arlington had been required to build the underpass that was an integral part of the planning permission for building the Aztec West Park, then there wouldn’t be much of a problem now! I think it was Northavon that ducked that one..
