The Southern Brooks Partnership has been awarded a £50,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to run a history project with schools in Bradley Stoke and Patchway.
Conservation groups will work with the children to identify historically important buildings and discover more about the past.
They will then work with a potter to create permanent markers on stone and ceramic at these sites which should be in place before summer 2008.
Some of the effort of the project will also look at what Bradley Stoke was like before the town was built 20 years ago.
The grant will provide a full time member of staff to co-ordinate the project.
The Southern Brooks group will meet on Monday, 30 April at 12.30pm to discuss how to take the project forward. The open meeting will take place at Patchway Town Council Office on Rodway Road, Patchway.
