Have Your Say: Bradley Stoke Town Festival

Written by Chris (editor) on Sunday June 10th, 2007 at 5:30 pm

The main part of the Bradley Stoke Town Festival is now over - and we’d love to know what you thought of it.

Bradley Stoke Town Council has asked us to gather opinions in order to improve the event in coming years.

Perhaps you discovered something there that you would love to see again or maybe there was one thing you believe should be left out next time.

Post your views by filling in the form below. We’ll publish them here and them pass them on to the town council organisers.

We enjoyed the Festival having attended during the afternoon on the Saturday; the dog display team were great and I thought the ice rink was a good idea especially with the weather being as lovely as it was.

    One or two observations though:

    * It could have done with another ice cream van. Throughout our visit the queue didn’t look any less than about 20 at all times.

    * I wonder how many people attended on the Friday - I can understand running the Festival that day if it had been during a half term but on a normal working / school day?

    * A good mix of stalls highlighting local projects, clubs and activities.

    * Perhaps there could have been alternatives to the usual fayre on offer - burger, kebab, pizza, chips etc

    * The ‘Most Thoughless Parking’ Award must surely go to the red Fiat parked right on the white line at the roundabout on Savages Wood Road (where the new David Wilson houses are being built.) Anyone coming from the Festival towards Tesco and the Three Brooks pub would have to get into the right hand lane of the roundabout regardless. I even saw a police car drive past the offending car - if it had been me I’d have popped one of those lovely clear, self sticking evnvelopes with a ticket in it under their windscreen wiper!

I personally thought it was good.

I agree with Louisa about the ice cream vans. Also I thought some of the animals in the “petting zoo” looked a frightend and also looked like they were over-heating - not sure that that worked out as the people thought it would!!

Apart from that, a good mix of stalls and events - might even go back next year! ;)

Understand 300 people went through the ‘normal’ second Friday of the month coffee morning, which was chosen as the launch for the local produce market. This is also a good day in the local producer’s diaries as it does not conflict with too many other local or farmers markets. The pre school birthday party attracted about 200 on the Friday morning at the Jubilee Centre and much fun was had by all. These were the only public events on the Friday.

Thoroughly enjoyed Saturday. Definetely more ice-cream and the sale of healthier food would have gone done. The displays were great - hard to get away as the children wanted to stay and watch. Looking forward to next year.

Hi to all!, I’m glad people enjoyed the weekend’s events. I certainly had a good time and am looking forward to next year already. Please keep the comments coming, many Councillors read the site regularly and feedback is always welcomed. Having queued for an ice-cream myself I will certainly be looking closely at catering next year, although two vans might have seemed excessive had it rained all day!
Whilst writing, I’d like to publicly thank the council staff for all their hard work putting the event together and ensuring things ran smoothly and also remind people that there are two more events taking place this weekend. The annual skatepark competition on Saturday and “Wild Savages” on Sunday in the nature reserve.
