Bradley Stoke Community School is to resubmit its bid for Specialist School Status in Languages and Performing Arts in October.
The school now needs to raise £40,000 to support the bid and is planning a series of fund-raising initiatives.
Headteacher Dave Baker and deputy headteacher Iain Williams kick off the activities by running the Bristol half-marathon.
Both are looking for sponsorship - and ask that anybody who wants to contribute gets in touch with the school.
Later in September, the school is holding a non-uniform day on the 14th. Children who want to participate will be asked to donate £1 towards the fund.
