Could health centre plans be resurrected?

Written by Chris (editor) on Saturday September 15th, 2007 at 9:43 am

Plans for a healthcare centre in Bradley Stoke, which were dropped last year, could be back on the agenda.

South Gloucestershire Council is to lobby the primary care trust in an attempt to improve facilities here in BS32.

Already the PCT is planning on a community hospital for nearby Yate along with facilities in Thornbury.

Councillors Rob Jones and John Ashe told the Evening Post: “We have nearly 25,000 residents in our town and it is clear the need for local healthcare is increasingly too much for our existing facilities to meet.

“There is particularly a chronic need for dentistry provision in the town - on the health service’s own figures 4,500 local people have been unable to register with an NHS dentist.”

Penny Harris, chief executive of the PCT, said: “The development of health care in Bradley Stoke is a priority for this PCT but it is important that we do so in a way that enables the greatest access to care and responds directly to the views of residents shared with us during consultation.”
