Tesco has submitted plans to upgrade its recycling facility at the to-be town centre store.
The ‘Tomra’ unit would feature recycling points for plastic, glass, metal, paper, card and cartons.
The new facility, according to the application, takes up less floor space and, compared to the current hotchpotch of bins, is in one long metallic structure.
The planned new unit saves space by crushing down items such as bottles and cans.
The application also says the unit would use clever technology to sort items to the correct bin should they be put in the wrong one.

I recall the people manning the consultation stands in the Leisure Centre talking about these when I asked about the sustainability of their new store. I think they said they’re solar powered.
