Could John Hogan face a new trial?

Written by Chris (editor) on Wednesday February 6th, 2008 at 8:02 am

The fall-out over the John Hogan trial - who was cleared of the murder of his son - continues with calls for a prosecution when he returns to the UK.

Six-year-old Liam died in Crete after he, John and daughter Mia plunged from the balcony of a hotel while on holiday with then wife Natasha.

John was later cleared of murder by a Greek court but was detained in a psychiatric unit.

The BBC is running a story saying Brian Chandler, Natasha’s mother’s partner, is calling for the action.

The story says he was written to shadow home secretary David Davis and his local MP Liam Fox asking for help.

Under double jeopardy laws John could face trial again if new evidence comes to light - although it is unclear whether UK laws would apply to a crime which took place abroad.
