A girl from Bradley Stoke is to follow in the footsteps of film character Billy Elliot after landing a place at the Royal Ballet School at Covent Garden in London.

Connie Vowles, who attends Bailey’s Court Primary School, will take up the place from September.

She is one of 12 children from across the UK who landed a place from more than 1,000 applications.

The prestigious school was founded in 1926 when Dame Ninette de Valois opened the Academy of Choreographic Art. It gained a royal charter in 1956.
