The Audit Commission is to investigate any irregularities in how Bradley Stoke Town Council handled its decisions during a row with Northavon Bowls Club.
Liberal Democrat prospective parliamentary candidate, John Keily, reported the case to the auditors claiming a full town council had not been given a good enough briefing to make an informed decision.
He said they “provided no paperwork nor a report on the financial implications of any of the options they outlined to full council”.
The town council then voted in favour of sending back a previous agreement to the club and imposing a deadline for them to sign it.
The auditor told Mr Keily, in an emailed reply, that “I will consider whether there is any action … in relation to the matters that you have raised and will respond to you in due course.”
The news comes on deadline day for the bowls club to agree to the proposed 8% rise in rent being demanded by the town council.
The club has already voted not to accept the agreement and will now have until May 27 to move its equipment from the Bailey’s Court green.
