Cricket club celebrates fantastic promotion season for first XI

Bradley Stoke Cricket Club is celebrating after its first XI gained promotion to Division One of the Bristol and District League.

Captain Adam Davis has led the team to a fantastic 11 victories with just three losses and three games cancelled or abandoned.

“After relegation last season the clubs aim was to bounce back into Division One at the first attempt which we have achieved,” Davis said.

“We have also been able to bring in some new players and promote youth players such as Joe Coles who have fitted in and contributed to our success really well.”

Coles has been a find of the season with the 14-year-old taking 5-26 last Saturday (23 August) with his first bowl for the first team against Barrow Gurney CC in a 112 run victory.

Bradley Stoke’s second XI, led by Nick English, has not faired so well with only two wins with one game left.

But the third XI, led by Mike Mundy, has had a creditable season with a third place finish only missing out on promotion by 0.3 points.

For anybody wishing to play cricket in 2009, either youth or senior, can contact the club through the club website onĀ www.bradleystokecc.co.uk

Congratulations to all those in our area who have achieved sporting success. Physical activity is good for those of all ages and all levels of ability – thank goodness there are still people who are prepared to put in the considerable time and effort required to run the various clubs.

On behalf of BSCC, thanks Kitty for your comments, we welcome all support we can get from the community.
At BSCC we strive to offer quality coaching and cricket to the local youth and at present we run an under 9’s side and a youth side, some of whom have also gone on and played for the senior teams too. During the summer we run, through first teamers Barry Radford and Steve Davis, Sunday morning coaching sessions from 10.30am and all players are welcome to come along and join in. Keep your eyes open for the dates for 2009 and come along!
Support is also very important to the senior sides and any spectators will find themselves made very welcome and hopefully enjoy some good cricket. We only have one home match left this year, next Saturday, but please do come along!
