Northavon Bowls Club could be without a home for yet another season after Bradley Stoke Town Council asked for £1,400 more than the club said it could afford.
As revealed by The Bradley Stoke Examiner, negotiations between the two restarted over the past few weeks with committee members meeting with representatives from the council.
The two have been at loggerheads after a rental deal for the green at Bailey’s Court fell through which ultimately saw the club being evicted.
At a meeting of the council’s Finance and Leisure Committee a motion was passed to ask the club for £8,000 per year with a 6% annual rise.
The new figure from the council takes into account that the authority will take responsibility for maintaining the green which the club had previously done.
But Margaret Thompson from the club, which has seen its membership numbers plumit since the move from Bailey’s Court, said the maximum they could offer was £6,600.
When the motion was passed Mrs Thompson left the meeting saying she believed she would “never play in Bradley Stoke again”.
She also thanked those councillors who have supported the cause of the club during their dispute.
The proposal will now go back to the bowls club before a further update at a full meeting of the town council in January.
