Night bus costs £35 in subsidy per passenger – do you use it?

Passengers using the night bus from the city centre to Bradley Stoke are being subsidised at a rate of £35-per-person.

Night busThe revelation was made at a town council meeting on Wednesday amid concerns over bus provision in the town.

It was revealed so few were using the night bus service, which the town council contributes £8,000 towards, that sending people by taxi would be cheaper.

The total cost of the subsidy is £31,000 – currently Patchway Town Council also contributes cash but the University of the West of England has withdrawn its support.

A meeting due in the next week could decide if the bus service continues in its current form.

If the UWE have withdrawn their support, then the bus should no longer stop there

This bus is a lifeline for my 19 year old daughter to go into town with her friends. She loves it because its safe, reliable and affordable.

In the days of drink driving and environmental issues, surely we should simply be encouraging more people to use it. Publicity please!

Love the bus. It makes if affordable to go out for a few drinks in town. Last week 5 of us used it and it was still cheaper than a taxi home

There’s a night bus?!? I tried to find info about one and could only find the N1 going as far as Filton. Perhaps it needs more publicity, I’d certainly use it if I knew about it! Off to do a more thorough search now…

I can’t get back from town tomorrow because they have withdrawn this service – I have to get a bus to Frampton and walk from there. Probably not too safe early hours in the morning after a few drinks – BRING BACK THE NIGHT BUS TO BRALDEY STOKE AND ADVERTISE IT BETTER!!!

I am so disappointed. We wanted to move here because there was good night transport. And now there is absolutely NONE!! If there was a bus going up the A38 we could walk, if N1 could just be routed to go into Bradley stoke, or if the… there are many options, but it isn’t going to happen is it. Maybe The Town Council could get a bus hire book in advance thing going for Friday and Saturday nights. You’d only need three trips maybe? 00:15, 01:15, 02:15. Have the planners forgotten that teens can’t drive, and that if you imprison them in a place with no night life you will get restless kids getting up to no good! . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Bradley Stoke was meant for families, and families grow up, and need places to go, and the means to get there, and HOME again safely!

Richard had a great idea. ADVERTISE the night bus. Actually say where the bus stop is. The Sadly Broke site gives a link to BRISTOLSTREETS.CO.UK which details bus routes, but even that is out of date, it still shows the EX Late Bus times and route (I’ve emailed them about it) ………………………………………………………………

Is that enough ranting? It will do no good, and it doesn’t even make me feel better.

Pffft, I have come back from town on numerous occassions, and waited for the Buses in the correct stops, 10 minutes before they are due to arrive, and 3 times (this was about a year ago) they did not actually even turn up! nice to see what we did pay for didnt actually provide the service before it stopped!
You cant miss a service that was never utilised.
