The search for a mobile cleaner for Bradley Stoke has begun after the town council approved the new position in its 2009/10 budget.
The council has announced it will advertise for the post in the hope of keeping the town’s streets clean.
The issue of rubbish and litter is one that has been highlighted by The Bradley Stoke Examiner in recent months.
The part-time post, for 16 hours per week, will help keep the bus shelters, open spaces, streets and parks in Bradley Stoke clean.
Councillor Roger Avenin, who proposed the move, said: “I became aware of the problem when walking my dog around Bailey’s Court.
“I felt something had to be done to remove plastic bags and other litter from the verges and hedgerows around the town and I’m delighted my colleagues on the council have supported this.”
Closing date for applications is 12 March 2009 and it is hoped that the successful candidate will be in place by April. Anyone interested in further information about the post should contact the Council on 01454 868080.
