Sheffield Judo competition bags trio of winners for Bradley Stoke

Three members of Bradley Stoke Judo Club have been crowned national champions at the British Schools National Judo Championships.

The event, held in Sheffield last weekend, was a talent identification competition.

Now, all three have been invited to join the England Judo Squad at their training sessions.

Kelly Wilson (Kingsfield School), 14, Jordan Knight (Filton College), 16 and Adam Bourne (Monks Park School), 13, now have their eyes on fulfilling their ambitions of Olympic competition.

Club coach, Gemma Gale, reports on the action for The Bradley Stoke Examiner …

Kelly Wilson was first to fight, weighing in at 53kg in the Under 57kg category. She had four fights in all, and although they were all very worthy opponants she clearly dominated in each match.

She won every fight by the maximum score (ippon), with her pre-competition training program paying off!

Adam Bourne was second to fight after winning his category by default, he was put into the next weight group up for the experience.

This rattled Adam’s nerves and he struggled to fight to his potential but still made a good effort.

Jordan Knight was last. He knew two of his three opponants from the circuit and he knew he was in for a tough time.

His first fight went the full four minutes, with Jordan narrowly winning by a small score. He played that match very well to keep his lead, and was not scored against once.

His second fight was against a young lad who just missed out on a medal at the National Junior Trials, and Jordan had seen him fight before. Jordan threw him twice to win by the maximum score, and was very pleased with himself.

His third fight was a lot easier, winning again by Ippon to win the Championship.

All three players have done the club, their schools and most importantly, themselves very proud.
