A consultation over parents’ travel habits to Wheatfield Primary School will take place in the new term in a bid to find a solution to crossing problems on Brook Way.

Liberal Democrat councillor, Jon Williams, has taken up the campaign after witnessing problems crossing the busy Bradley Stoke main road.

The issue was first raised by two mothers from Saxon Way and has led to meetings involving the district council and police.

An initial plea for a zebra crossing, first reported on by the Examiner in June, was discussed by was felt to be “unsuitable” in the proposed location near the school.

Instead, attention has now turned to a “raised table” and a larger “refuge area” where children and parents would be safe.

There could also be more school signage along Brook Way to warn motorists of children crossing.

Cllr Williams told the Examiner that in “early in September pupils and parents would be surveyed about their travel to work methods”.

He added: “The school would then seek to present SGC with an updated version [of the school's travel plan] in late September.”
