Champs sur Marne homes miss out on high-speed broadband

Virgin Media has confirmed that Champs sur Marne in Bradley Stoke will not be hooked up to high speed internet despite a cable being installed in the road.

Readers of The Bradley Stoke Examiner spotted that the firm was laying a cable to Bradley Stoke Community School.

The story was also run in the Journal who were told that it was “unlikely” the road would benefit from high-speed broadband.

Now a spokeswoman for the company has told us that the cable was being installed by its business division which means homes will definitely miss out.

“This would be classed as a business premise and served therefore by business services (ntl:Telewest business, part of Virgin Media),” she said.

“This is nothing to do with installing a residential infrastructure, which is what would be required to serve the areas you refer to.”

We have been campaigning for Virgin to complete its broadband network in Bradley Stoke and so far more than 226 residents have lobbied the company.

Unbelievable! They are happy to provide connectivity to Willows Brook (by the looks of things) for business services but cannot seem to get it in to thier heads that they are losing out on an opportunity to supply services for over 2000+ additional homes.
If there was a 30% take up (600 homes) on VirginMedia services, each taking their “L” package (£27.45 pm), then they will be generating an extra £200k per year. I know that the outlay would be more but cannot they not see the benefits?!

To be honest most people would take phone, tv and broadband and would pay well over £27.45pm on average!.

To me it is a clear; within two to three years it would have paid for itself!

I understand that most people who are in Champs Sur Marne won’t get VM cable broadband, but that’s only because VM won’t pay to cable the street properly.

But the houses that are within a few metres of the new cable should have a pretty good shout of getting hooked up if you ask me.
