GFA Minor Cup Final, Almondsbury Town FC, Tuesday, 3 April 2007.
Bradley Stoke Town 1-2 Brislington Cricketers
Bradley Stoke Towns GFA Cup campaign ended in heartbreak as they fell to a 2-1 defeat to Brislington Cricketers in the final.
Bradley Stoke got off to a dream start, though, with an early goal from James Collis-Pritchard.
Towns number six blasted the orange and blacks into dreamland with a low strike under the Cricketers keeper.
And they could have extended the lead five minutes later when the dangerous Ashley Lloyd was through on goal. Cricketers James Tokely denied the number 11 with a last-ditch tackle.
Andy Forshaw also had a chance in the first half to make it 2-0 but his chip drifted over the bar.
Brislington, having earlier hit the post, should have levelled the match shortly before half time when Jack OBrien narrowly dragged his shot wide.
Matthew Grimes got the second half off to a great start for Brislington. Within minutes of the restart he scooped a shot over the bar. Minutes later he was through on goal only for Town keeper James Palmer to parry his shot wide for a corner.
But Town fell behind from the flag kick as Jack Elston poked home from close range following a goal mouth scramble.
And it only took them another 10 minutes to find the winner as Jack O’Brien broke down the right wing. He passed in-field to Mark Chaffey who dragged the ball to his left foot and eluded the Town defence before striking a sweet shot into the bottom left.
Bradley Stoke pushed for a second goal and should have scored in the closing minutes of the match.
Andy Forshaws chip was hit too hard and Matt Dobbins was deeply unlucky not to have scored after an excellent run which saw him ghost past four Brislington players.
A last ditch free kick on the very corner of the 18 yard box went over and with it Bradley Stokes chances of lifting the cup.
It was a great effort from Bradley Stoke Town who were unlucky not to have got more from the match.
- Many thanks to Mark Chaffey for clearing up the Cricketers’ scorers for us
