Laptop and cash handed over to Colitis and Crohn’s Disease group

Written by Chris (editor) on Thursday August 28th, 2008 at 5:25 pm

A new laptop computer and £100 has been handed over to the local branch of the National Association for Colitis and Crohn’s Disease following a competition to name Bradley Stoke’s new town centre.

Pictured (L-R): Town clerk David Chandler, Willow Brook Centre manager Scott Lahive, Georgie Bigg from the NACC, Mayor Robert Jones and Councillor Julian Barge.

An anonymous entrant, who won £50 which was also donated to the NACC, came up with the name of the Willow Brook Centre.

The laptop and a further £50 was donated by supermarket Tesco and the management of the new town centre.

Georgie Bigg from the NACC said the new laptop would be “worth more than the cash value” as it would allow the group, and invited guests at meetings, to show Powerpoint presentations.

Meeting called to discuss housing plans for South Gloucestershire

Written by Chris (editor) on Wednesday August 27th, 2008 at 1:25 pm

A meeting to discuss proposals to increase housing in South Gloucestershire by 33,000 will be held next Tuesday.

The Southern Brooks Area Forum, which covers Bradley Stoke and neighbouring district wards, will be held at the Greenfield Centre in Winterbourne on 2 September.

The meeting is billed as “giving local people the opportunity to quiz council members and officers about issues and concerns that affect their area”.

South Gloucestershire Council has already reacted angrily after the new housing allocation in the area went up from 21,500 to 32,800 following a review.

Baroness Andrews’ proposed modifications to the South West Regional Spatial Strategy would place an “intolerable strain” on the county’s infrastructure according to the council.

The meeting gets under way at 7pm with doors open from 6.15pm.

Town council could change policy over vacant councillor positions

Written by Chris (editor) on Tuesday August 26th, 2008 at 9:28 pm

Bradley Stoke Town Council could change its policy over advertising councillor vacancies after a position was only advertised in the ward rather than online.

The Bradley Stoke Journal has reported that Caroline Charlton has stood down from her Meadowband seat but the vacancy has yet to appear on the council’s website.

Press spokesman John Ashe has told the Examiner: “The legal requirement is only to advertise the vacancy on notice boards throughout the parish which was done, so no notice was posted on our website.

“However I do think that we should in future advertise vacancies on the website as the parish notice board ruling has obviously been around for decades before the invention of the web.”
