Summer library challenge offer medals for top readers

July 20th, 2008 · No Comments

Bradley Stoke Library is getting involved in a summer Olympic-inspired reading challenge - with medals on offer for children.

Team Read, which launched this weekend, will see youngsters offered a gold medal if they read six or more books during the summer holiday.

There will also be a special event with games, puzzles and cartoons at the town’s library on August 13 between 2pm and 4pm.

Councillor Heather Goddard, executive member for communities, said: “As well as being fun, the events are educational and will help to keep young minds occupied during the holiday break. And there are thousands of books they can choose from to read.”

The challenge runs until August 21 and further information can be found at the library or on the South Gloucestershire Council website’s Team Read website.

A strike over pay by council workers will see Bradley Stoke Library close on Thursday, 17 July 2008.

About 2,000 of South Gloucestershire Council’s workers are due to walk out on Wednesday and Thursday.

The council says that a limited selection of other services will operate to “minimise the impact on vulnerable residents”.

Bradley Stoke’s library is due to close for one day of the two-day stike.
