May 23rd, 2009 · 1 Comment

Bradley Stoke’s new dental surgery has seen some 50 patients-per-day during its first week open.

The NHS surgery, run by Phoenix Dental, is the first to open in the town’s 20 year history.

At the moment waiting times for check-ups are around a week at the surgery which features two dentists and a hygienist.

Waiting times could slow down as check-ups lead to treatments over the coming months.

The surgery can be found on the first floor of The Willow Brook Centre and appointments can be requested via their website.

Dentist - picture by Conor LawlessSouth Gloucestershire Primary Care Trust has confirmed the firm were awarded the contract worth £320,000 per year.

The two-chair dental service is due to open in April 2009 on the first floor of the centre.

Liberal Democrat Jon Williams said: “After a long running campaign to get an NHS dentist in Bradley Stoke I am obviously very pleased that the PCT have been able to secure the contract for this much needed service.

“I know that many residents travel miles to obtain a dental service and it will be a relief to them that there will now be one on their doorstep.

“I understand that the new service will start to advertise their presence from the end of February and residents will be able to access the new service from April. This is a big boost for the town.”

Town mayor and Conservative councillor Robert Jones, said: “This is great news for Bradley Stoke residents. I am delighted that our petition and council motion has been listened to by the local NHS.”

The town council’s controlling party added their “long-running campaign” won the service for the town, claiming a motion carried at South Gloucestershire Council convinced the NHS to act.
