More discussions over council Jubilee Centre move to take place

September 13th, 2009 · No Comments

The possible relocation of Bradley Stoke Town Council’s offices is set to be discussed at a meeting this week.

The Bradley Stoke Examiner revealed in January that the authority was considering a move from its Woodlands base to the Jubilee Centre.

Previously, the council has been considering moving to The Willow Brook Centre but the high costs involved led to the relocation falling through.

A working party was then set up after the idea of redeveloping the Jubilee Centre was mooted.

In July, the council decided to look “exclusively” at moving to the facility near to the new town centre.

It is thought the renovation of the Jubilee Centre would work out less expensive than the move to The Willow Brook Centre.

Town Council to look ‘exclusively’ at move to Jubilee Centre

July 16th, 2009 · No Comments

A working party looking at where Bradley Stoke Town Council’s offices should be have been told to look exclusively at options for the Jubilee Centre.

At a full town council meeting on Wednesday the working group was directed by councillors to look at the centre.

It means that any move to the Willow Brook Centre – as originally planned – is now very unlikely.

We revealed in January that the move to the town centre site was almost certainly dead.

It is thought the renovation of the Jubilee Centre would work out less expensive than the move to the Willow Brook Centre.

The group will look at either building next to, on top of or out from the Jubilee Centre to house the council’s admin staff.

Council meeting to discuss proposed Jubilee Centre revamp

Jubilee Centre mock-up

A proposed redevelopment of Bradley Stoke’s Jubilee Centre is set to be discussed by the town council this week.

The Bradley Stoke Examiner revealed in January that the town council was considering ditching a move to the Willow Brook Centre.

The alternative was to add a second floor to the nearby Jubilee Centre – a matter which has been discussed by councillors as far back as last December.

It is thought the renovation of the Jubilee Centre would work out less expensive than the move to the Willow Brook Centre.

The plans show four new town council offices on one side of the the new floor with a meeting room and a larger office room on the other side.

A lift would be added in the middle of the current atrium and a new staircase would be added near the current reception area.

But, the meeting agenda already says that – despite considerable interest – the public and press may be excluded during discussions.

The full council meeting will take place at 7.30pm on Wednesday, 18 March at the Jubilee Centre.

Town council considers office move to revamped Jubilee Centre

Plans for the Jubilee Centre

Bradley Stoke Town Council is considering ditching a planned move to the Willow Brook Centre in favour of renovating the Jubilee Centre.

The council has already had detailed plans for the revamp, which would see a new floor added to the centre, drawn up.

There have also been several meetings about the new centre involving town councillors.

The first was following a full council meeting on 3 December where the minutes show “informal discussions” were held.

The second was before the Finance and Leisure Committee at the Jubilee Centre on 17 December from which members of the press and public were barred.

Liberal Democrat Councillor Jon Williams also refused to take part in the second meeting; he was present at the first but left before the Jubilee Centre discussions took place.

It is thought the renovation of the Jubilee Centre would work out less expensive than the move to the Willow Brook Centre.

But the plan would go back on what mayor Robert Jones told a Safer and Stronger South Gloucestershire meeting in 2008.

He said then that, subject to contracts, the move to the new town centre would take place in 2009.

The Jubilee Centre plans show four new town council offices on one side of the the new floor with a meeting room and a larger  office room on the other side.

A lift would be added in the middle of the current atrium and a new staircase would be added near the current reception area.

The Bradley Stoke Examiner requested a statement from the town council two weeks ago but we have yet to receive one.

More rubbish is dumped in the Jubilee Green pond after May cleanup

June 16th, 2008 · 2 Comments

Jubilee Green pond More rubbish has been dumped in the pond at Jubilee Green less than a month since members of the community helped clean it out.

The pond was cleared by a team of volunteers at the end of May, but between Sunday night and Monday morning more rubbish has been fly-tipped there.

According to the Bradley Stoke Activity Centre manager, John Rendell, several duvets, matresses and builders’ rubble has been dumped there.

Unfortunately the area around the pond is not covered by the CCTV from the Jubilee Centre.

“We’ve got nine cameras which cover the centre and car park,” John explained. “But the pond is over the far side. We can’t see where it backs on to the road.”
