A litter-picking day is to be held at the end of April in Bradley Stoke in a bid to clean the town up.
The Clean Sweep day will be held on Thursday, 30 April 2009 from 2.30pm.
Bradley Stoke Town Council is encouraging residents to organise groups to clean their own areas, the activity centres or open spaces.
All the equipment needed for the day – along with refreshments – will be provided by the authority.
The initiative is the latest in a long line, including hiring a mobile cleaning operative, to help tidy Bradley Stoke.
Over the past few months, this publication has highlighted some of the problem areas.
Anybody interested in helping out on the day is asked to contact Vicky at the town council on 01454 868082.

Bradley Stoke’s new mobile cleaning operative, David Dace, has started work to make the town’s street tidier.
Mr Dace, whose role is being funded by the town council, will work for 16 hours per week.
The position was created following an increase in litter around Bradley Stoke – a subject The Bradley Stoke Examiner has been highlighting.
The post has cost the council almost £6,000 – which also includes paying for the hire of a van.

Bradley Stoke’s new mobile cleaning operative will start work during next week – and will be aiming to keep the town’s streets clean.
The 16-hour part-time post has cost the council almost £6,000 – which also includes the cost of a van.
The post was created to “tackle the growing litter problem in the town” – an issue highlighted by The Bradley Stoke Examiner.
The new employee will be unveiled to the press on Thursday when they and councillors will take part in litter-picking action.

The search for a mobile cleaner for Bradley Stoke has begun after the town council approved the new position in its 2009/10 budget.
The council has announced it will advertise for the post in the hope of keeping the town’s streets clean.
The issue of rubbish and litter is one that has been highlighted by The Bradley Stoke Examiner in recent months.
The part-time post, for 16 hours per week, will help keep the bus shelters, open spaces, streets and parks in Bradley Stoke clean.
Councillor Roger Avenin, who proposed the move, said: “I became aware of the problem when walking my dog around Bailey’s Court.
“I felt something had to be done to remove plastic bags and other litter from the verges and hedgerows around the town and I’m delighted my colleagues on the council have supported this.”
Closing date for applications is 12 March 2009 and it is hoped that the successful candidate will be in place by April. Anyone interested in further information about the post should contact the Council on 01454 868080.

A reader of The Bradley Stoke Examiner has compiled a shocking dossier of litter in the town following our appeal earlier in the week.

The catalogue of images shows the area around Bailey’s Court strewn with rubbish – some even around the bottom of a litter bin.
The pictures follow the news that Bradley Stoke Town Council is thinking of employing a mobile cleaning operative.
We asked for readers to e-mail their photos of litter problems in their area – and a reader who wishes to remain anonymous – sent in the selection of more than 40 images.
Some photographs shows bottles, carrier bags and wrappers on the roadside near the south Bradley Stoke shopping area.
In others you can see alleys with hedges stuffed with litter and, shockingly, a bin with waste strewn around its base.
If you have images of litter problems in your area you can email them to news@sadlybroke.com
Bradley Stoke Town Council could make a decision over funding for the cleaning post at a meeting later this month.

A mobile cleaner could be in operation in Bradley Stoke soon if the town council signs off the £,6000 cost.
But has the litter problem in Bradley Stoke got so bad that we need to spend our taxes a cleaner?
One worried resident contacted us saying areas around Bailey’s Court were becoming “strewn” with rubbish.
And fly-tipping in the Jubilee Green pond has become an issue which has seen teams of volunteers giving time to clean it up.
We would like to hear what the situation is like in your part of the town. Are the streets clean and litter free or has your area been blighted by rubbish?

Bradley Stoke could have a dedicated “mobile cleaning operative” if the town council approves the cost of the wages in January.
A meeting of the Finance and Leisure Committee backed the move which would cost £5,900 per year for 16 hours of work.
The cost would also include the hire of a vehicle to help move large objects and litter in the town.
The committee’s recommendation will now have to be ratified by full council at their first meeting in 2009.
