Tesco representative to attend special council meeting

May 8th, 2008 · No Comments

A representative from Tesco will attend Thursday’s specially-convened Bradley Stoke Town Council meeting to discuss the name for the new town centre.

Dan Bramwell, Public Affairs Consultant for the firm, will face questions about The Brooks Centre name which councillors have opposed.

Tesco has previously said they would run a competition (also here) to name the new development but later claimed “time had got away from them”.

The meeting will also discuss the row between Northavon Bowls Club and the town council.

Town centre road moves for next stage of development

April 13th, 2008 · 1 Comment

A new route into the Bradley Stoke town centre development has opened meaning motorists must now drive around the edge of the building site to park at Tesco.

The new town square and shops are due to be built on the site of the original route into the car park which ran past the disused petrol station – due to be demolished soon.

Motorists will now enter from the roundabout on Savages Wood Road and will turn left alongside the new petrol station.

The route follows the new fence, which runs behind Manor Farm Crescent and Hedgerows, to a new mini roundabout and then into the old car park.

Bus users will also be affected by the changes with the town centre bus stop being moved to Savages Wood Road near the pedestrian crossing.

Shortly after the supermarket closed on Sunday the old route was blocked and new one opened.

Objections tell of problems with ‘gangs’ in Manor Farm Crescent

April 12th, 2008 · 3 Comments

Several residents from Manor Farm Crescent in Bradley Stoke have raised concerns over gangs causing vandalism problems in their cul-de-sac.

The problem came to light in comments to South Gloucestershire Council over planning variations that Tesco want to make to the town centre.

Some of the objections posted tell of youths on the cul-de-sac, as well as nearby Shepherds Walk and Hedgerows, using them as a shortcut to the town centre.

One comment says: “Recently this access point and path was closed by Tesco as the site is being developed, to the relief of local residents who normally have to put up with gangs of youths who otherwise normally use this shortcut.”

The correspondent went on to say they are “plagued by littering; and disturbances and vandalism from youth ‘gangs’”.

Another resident tells of “noise, vandalism and litter” and says the problems happen in Manor Farm Crescent as they are “away from the public eye”.

The new access road to the town centre is due to open on Monday and it is unclear if the pedestrian route at Manor Farm Crescent will be opened again then.

Do you live on or near Manor Farm Crescent? We’d like to know if there is a gang problem there. Use the comments and let us know.
