Totally agree with everyone. Last thing I want to see in the centre is a KFC in the shops directly in front of Tesco’s or in the 3 large units that will be built where the old petrol station is. Besides, we have plenty of takeaways especially in the north of Bradley Stoke i.e. by Aldi and over the road at the Bradley Pavilion centre. As for a restaurant, that would be nice but can’t see a private investor opening a restaurant in a small town, when a city centre has a much greater pull. I think we would have to accept a restaurant linked to a chain. Already we have several pubs by Mitchell’s and Butlers (Three Brooks & Toby Carvery) that provide good food. Costa is owned by Whitbread as is Pizza Hut, maybe they could open a family restaurant i.e. Brewers Fayre. Bradley Stoke is full of families so a family style restaurant seems the best but without the junk.

an italian pizza/pasta chain such as Zizzi or Pizza Express would be nice and would have a great market right on the doorstep. I am getting sick of indian & chinese takeaways!

Are u aware that there is a Pizza Hut Delivery next to ALDI?

KFC shouldnt be aloud, but you should consider macdonalds, its alot better, there should be a large amount of clothes stores and a few stores like argos which sell quite alot of items. also, how do we apply for these jobs which come with the new shops? email me the answer kinger987@hotmail.com

Given how busy Bradley Stoke Way can be, especially in rush hour, have any results been published on the effect a large Tesco Extra, plus all the other stores, will have on local congestion?

When the town council anounced shops and restaurants would be built next to the tesco am I the only one who imagined some lovely sit-down restaurants. Not KFC, not Ladbrokes, not Greggs. Its going to create a centre for the anti-social yobs who hang around our estates. I can’t wait.

Jennie, that would require a “real” town centre to spring up , not some poorly disguised money making exercise by Tesco. When are they going to stop pretending that it’s being done for our benefit, to give Bradley Stoke a heart, and admit that all they’re putting up is yet another mini-mall to earn them even more money. Thornbury has a proper looking town centre, we’ll just have “Tesco Central”.

My comment is Great new that we are having a new tesco and a town centre, but why do we have to have a KFC, Greggs, Subway and Ladbrokes, which show that it is not health at all making people fat and broke at the same time! We are ending up like a America each day!! Sorry thats’s just my say. Thank you

I popped down at lunchtime and I think it looks really good. Loads of staff to help with a really friendly atmostphere.

The KFC/Greggs/Subway is just a recipie for disaster for our community. Attracting kids with little else to do and little imagination into the area.
Already in adjacent streets there is more litter & groups of kids plodding back and forth.
Rather than being a town centre I feel that the place has in the short time since opening sunk into a bit of an no go area and I do not fancy shopping at Tescos after the evening rush even though I am a fairly fit and strong adult male. Rather than walk there I will now drive to Asda or Sainsburys.
I am unsure what control if any the council have over the outlets at the centre. The people who have allowed this to happen obviously do not reside in the area and are just looking at the bottom line and yes I do understand the economics of it.
Whilst it looks nice and shiney now I can’t help feeling that the whole area will soon become a litter, grease and grim encrusted grey monstrosity.
It really has made me want to move out of the area.

Went down to see the new Tesco centre.
As a town centre there doesn’t seem to be any warmth or community feel to the place. To me it felt more like a cash and carry.
Just to pick up my usual shopping seemed like a mission.
Car park doesn’t seem to be very well designed. The spaces were very tight and while pushing the trolley one felt that there was no where safe to walk with cars driving round and round looking for spaces. What happened to the pavements between the row of parked cars?
All in all a stressful and disappointing experience.

Couldn’t agree more Sophie. It’s a really impersonal experience. Even one of the Tesco staff said to me that they no longer see “their regulars”.
My shopping trip seemed like an expedition and I’ll be going to Sainsburys now even if it costs a few more pennies.
Perhaps some consultation with the locals would have been a good idea?

Seems most are in agreement as to the non event of a town centre. This really is a poor show by the developers.
My shoping takes twice as long and as a parent (with a todler),I seem to spend ages trying to find a parking space, while a majority of the disabled bays are emtpy

With regard to the car parking etc – it needs to be given time. It is still very much a building site and therefore a lot of the walkways aren’t there or are temporary. Even the car park itself is a nightmare, but I hope that once the old tesco building is knocked down and new parking bays are put in, it will start making things a bit easier.
I agree with the comments about the number of snack /fast food outlets. Nowhere yet for a ’sit down’ meal. What happened to Tesco’s cafe that was supposed to be next door to Reflections?

I returned to Bradley Stoke after spending 2 years abroad and I’m quite dissapointed with the changes made to the area.
The things I used to enjoy about the old Tesco was the community feel about the place, the familiar faces and personal approach from the staff there. Now it’s a monstrous, ugly eyesore which doesn’t fit in with the tone of the surrounding houses. It’s so large you almost need a scooter to get around to grab the quick essentials. I no longer see the same face twice and don’t feel as if the personal touch is there any longer.
I’m also really disgusted about the type of shops allowed directly on the centre (KFC, Subway) I agree with some of the above comments, it’s only attracting the wrong crowds to loiter and litter.
Overall the place is a cold, sterile environment which makes for a stressfull and unpleasant experience and I won’t be visiting in a hurry.

Lets face it, this is the latest indication that the Council and developers treat Bradley Stoke as a second rate town giving us second rate houses, second rate roads and now a second rate shopping centre. Only the schools seem to be bucking this pitiful trend towards mediocrity, and thank goodness for that. Architectural merit are two words that appear to have bypassed the town which is more than we can say for the traffic. We deserve better!!!

Wish people would stop complaining about the new town centre, yes it not perfect but its not even finished yet! Its better than having to sit in traffic trying to get the Mall because they can’t repair the Patchway bridge properly. In my opinion the town centre comes into its own when you just want to buy some non-food items without having to trek to Cribs Causeway.
18 Matt Morris // Dec 17, 2008 at 10:23 pm
Sandy – you don’t have to live here you know – I don’t think any of what’s been put here is that bad. What did you want for the town? Bath the 2nd? Or perhaps Clifton the 2nd? That’s not going to happen – this is a young, modern town and the town centre is still a work in progress.
I think it’s best to judge the town centre next Christmas when all the work is done and everything’s settled down and hopefully more shops will appear.
You know the town needs to like it’self a bit – it is what it is – it’s not perfect but it’s not that bad either.

As i was wondering who @Curves@ are I looked at the list of retailers for the town centre.Do we really need yet another gym? Also two cheapo shoe shops, two mobile ‘phone shops, a bookies(!!??) and a ?clothes retailer who I have never heard of. Also what happened to the idea we were to get a hotel and restauranst? I cant see theat KFC and Subway are classified as that?

Not another Tesco!? Tesco, plus some odds and sods, not really a valuable shopping experience. I’d rather not bother.
21 alexch // Jan 30, 2009 at 9:28 pm
one word, disappointing.
22 kelly and katie babes // Apr 25, 2009 at 6:55 pm
we think there should be a cafe in tesco like there was in the old one as people would be more attracted to a proper meal instead of fast food. xxxxx
23 Mike // Apr 25, 2009 at 8:03 pm
The main reason there is no cafe in the new Tesco is because of Costa Coffee, Tesco part own that company.
24 Rob // Apr 27, 2009 at 5:19 pm
Kelly and Katie, who are these people who would consider Tesco Cafe as a purveyor of “a proper meal”?
I think your point is valid to the extent that a greater choice of eatery is required than that offered at present but a Tesco Cafe? No thank you.
A proper indepnedent restaraunt on the town square would be the ideal, though this may be setting my sights too high. (any budding chefs out their want to make a go of it?) Failing that a chain like Pizza Express or Zizzis would probably do well given the local demographic.
